President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed his Senior Special Adviser on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, as the Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission.
In his letter to the Senate, Buhari, who also made other appointments, sought legislative approval of Dabiri-Erewa’s new appointment as well as others.
The President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, read a series of letters of appointments from Buhari, including that of Dabiri-Erewa, to the lawmakers at the plenary on Tuesday.
Buhari wrote the Senate to substitute Chief Olabode Mustapha with Mrs. Ronke Sokefun as Chairman of the Governing Board of the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation.
The President reminded the Senate that he had earlier requested legislative confirmation of Mustapha as Chairman of NDIC in a letter dated March 27, 2018. He also noted that the nominee had not been confirmed by the Senate.
He said, “I now write to inform you of my decision to substitute Chief Olabode Akeem Mustapha with Mrs Ronke Sokefun as Chairman of the Governing Board. The distinguished Senate is therefore kindly requested to consider and confirm the appointment of Mrs. Ronke Sokefun as the Chairman of the Governing Board of the NDIC as well as other members whose names had earlier been forwarded.”
Both Mustapha and Sokefun are from Ogun State.
Buhari also appointed a chairman and members of the board of the National Bureau of Statistics. The chairman is Dr. Kabiru Nakaura.
The president nominated Mr. Chidi Izuwah as Director-General of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission.
